If you or your family has a four legged friend that has become part of the family then you know that veterinarian bills can be expensive. Recently I took my dog into the veterinarian because he was acting not himself and shaking. At first I thought he might be cold or excited about going on a car ride. Then I noticed he wasn’t really eating and made an appointment with his veterinarian. He couldn’t eat because of a sore throat and he was caring a temperature. Our family had all cold and upper respiratory infections for the past few weeks. We were all put on antibiotics including our dog. What if the illness or an injury came upon the dog and an emergency procedure needed to be done? Would you have the procedure done or would you put the pet to sleep because of the cost? I heard a story from a veterinarian assistant that a dog owner had came to their office. The dog was an Irish setter that had broken its leg below the knee in several places. The pet owner had a choice to try to set the leg or amputate. The owner didn’t want to do any of the choices because of the cost and decided to put the animal out of its misery by putting it to sleep. If he had pet health insurance would the pet owner decision be different? Maybe the pet owner would think about another alternative.

Many veterinarians now have pamphlets or information for pet owners that are interested in pet insurance. ASPCA pet health insurance, PetFirst HealthCare, and Kroger affiliates offer a health insurance. The benefits of having a comprehensive plan cover routine visits, screenings like heartworm, declawing and vaccinations. Many of the pet insurances gave a maximum coverage which included accidents, pneumonia, cancer and some genetic conditions. They covered annually $2,000.00 with a deductable of $100.00. Those pets that are 10 years old and older would be wise to get the senior comprehensive plan. Like many adults dogs that grow old have things internally slow down and since they cannot express how they feel like we do we need to look at our pets body language to see if there is anything wrong with their health. Some of the health insurances are for dogs and cats, but as a pet owner we need to compare to see what the best for our families and our pets is. There are other alternatives available as pet health insurance becomes part of today's norm for families that enjoy have a best friend.

Since 1983 I have had several pets’ cats and dogs. I have lost a cat to feline leukemia and others have died from seizures, heart conditions and unknown causes. I was attached to each pet with a special bond. It is known that people that have a pet live longer. They are best friends in all aspects. So when you care for a pet as a pet owner compare health insurances some are affordable and cost as low as $7.00 a month. I am considering and comparing cost of what is best suited for our pets and our family budget for health insurance for our pets.
